Martin will share his vision on the future of mobility and transport.

When Martin was Secretary for Transport he advocated for new thinking about the future of mobility and transport. 21st century solutions are now possible to address the transport problems of modern cities. The next thirty years will see a combination of autonomous technology and social changes that fundamentally alter how cities work. And yet governments are still making investment decisions that the direction for the next 50-80 years using 19th and 20th century solutions. Why?

Martin’s leadership in the field of smart transport technology was recognised in 2015 with his induction into the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress Hall of Fame (the only Australasian to be recognised in this way). After leaving the Ministry, Martin facilitated putting together New Zealand’s first autonomous vehicle trial at Christchurch Airport. He has since worked with and advised the New Zealand company Ohmio that is developing its own autonomous shuttles.
