National Party MP Chris Bishop was guest speaker at the Wellington Business Network’s July event.
Thirty five network members heard Chris discuss the implications of Brexit, the American presidential race, and the recent Australian general election to this country for this country.
In each case, there is a backlash against free trade, immigration and rational economics.
The challenge for our Government is to resist calls for a return to the good old days, which weren’t so good, and ensure that our strong, open economy benefits all New Zealanders and does not leave some groups disenfranchised.
Chris entered Parliament as a National Party List MP at the 2014 election. The following year he was named by the Dominion Post as “backbencher of the year”.
Our next event is scheduled for Tuesday, 16 August and Zoe Wallis has agreed to be our guest speaker. Zoe is the Senior Economist at Kiwibank and has the distinction of being the only local forecaster to pick the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s March OCR cut.
